What you need to know before setting off on your summer holiday

Before you jet off on your holiday you need to make sure you’ve got every base covered. From your packing right through to when you land. After all, wouldn’t it be awful to touch down at the airport on the other side and realise you’ve forgotten to sort out the Milano rental car?

We’ve put together this guide on what you need to do to prepare for your summer holiday, to help you enjoy a stress-free trip.

Make sure you’ve got the essentials

Before you leave the house round up the whole family and make sure each member has the bare essentials needed, so the trip runs smoothly. You wouldn’t want to get to the airport and realise your passport’s not valid, would you?

Make sure everyone has:

– A valid passport
– Any documentation required for your trip, including visas, a driving licence, boarding pass or any accommodation confirmation papers. It’s a good idea to gather all these documents and look after them in one safe place
– Travel insurance. Or, if you’re visiting Europe it’s a good idea to have a valid European Health Insurance Card
– Credit or debit card – you don’t want to be stranded with no means of getting money out! You should also tell your bank that you’re going away to avoid getting to your destination and being unable to dispense cash.
– Travel Money

Pack accordingly

Consider where you’re headed to, and pack accordingly. Are you staying at a hotel with a pool? Then make sure all family members have swim-wear! Perhaps you’re heading somewhere a little chillier? Then you’ll need insulating clothing. Wherever you’re going, check that everyone has appropriate clothing and enough packed for the duration of the trip.

Leave plenty of time to get to the Airport

That’s everything packed, now you need to get there!

There’s nothing worse than rushing around, trying to get the whole family in order, running to the Gate with only 5 minutes to spare. You’re going on holiday and you should be relaxing!

Plan your route to the airport, pre-book a parking space if necessary, and leave lots of time to get there. You never know what could happen – you might get caught in an awful traffic jam, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Check your check-in time

Check-in times vary between airlines, and for long-haul or shorter flights. Don’t just presume that because your flight’s at 12:00 you’ll only need to arrive at 10:00. Check with your airline for your specific flight check-in time to avoid any unfortunate incidents.

Book your rental car in advance

Organising your rental car in advance will give you peace of mind that when you arrive at your destination you can simply pick up your car and get on your way. Chances are the kids will be pretty excitable, so we’re guessing you could probably do without the hassle of having to sort out car rental after you’ve landed!

As you’re traveling during school holiday time which is peak season, you also run the risk of turning up on the day to find no cars left. Not only will pre-booking your rental car save you time and energy, it’s also a brilliant way of saving money.
